Well, the tour was fantastic wasn't it? An amazing spectacle showing off some incredible rugby. I still think it's an incredible shame that the Lions were ultimately unsuccessful, here's why I think this is so:
1) Injuries - just plain old bad luck for a lot of players, if Adam Jones (who WASN'T fouled by Bakkies Botha as he has said so himself) and Gethin Jenkins had stayed on in that second test things might have been different come the finish. Add to that injuries to Shanklin, Flannery and O' Leary before the tour plus Byrne, Stephen Ferris and Leigh Halfpenny during, things might have been different.
2) Tactics - the Lions backs were better than the Springboks, noticeably so. But what the Boks did better was play to their strengths, line-outs, breakdowns and tactical kicking. It wasn't always pretty, but it worked!
There are a myriad of other reasns of course but now the tour is over their analysis isn't that useful in looking at them too deeply. Ah well, bring on the domestic season!
